Online counseling for gender issues uses the written language as a vehicle of bringing about not only change but an understanding of what the individual feels and the direction they would like to take in respect of their gender related issues. Whether written or spoken it is a core component of communication.  Whilst some may believe that communication is best achieved by face to face interactions and verbal exchanges, there is in fact little evidence, if any, to back this.  In fact, the anonymity that is identifiably apparent through online therapy at most times assists the individual to open up more easily and more freely than they may normally do so in a face to face situation.  In respect of gender counseling and assessment this has had positive results of enabling the client of letting go that 'secret' which has been held back and suppressed for over many years

It also removes the threat of the over ‘subjective’ thought of the counselor,  due to the early and  ‘raw’ appearance and presentation of the individual which may stand in the way of objectivity.
